Morris Dach, A Restaurateur Ahead of His Time
Morris Dach was a successful foodservice entrepreneur whose passion was to help independent restaurant startups like himself expand their businesses. This passion was complemented by his ability to build lasting relationships with his customers and community. Those who came to know Morris called him “Mo.” Mo was highly experienced in the day-to-day burdens nearly all food-service business owners carried on their shoulders. After all, he had owned a restaurant himself! Moe knew how critical it was to replace a piece of commercial kitchen equipment quickly should it fail. He also wanted to ensure that a foodservice venue could affordably expand their kitchen if they needed to increase food production. In 1966 Moe opened a commercial restaurant equipment warehouse store that would help revolutionize the way restaurant equipment was sold.
Morris met this need by purchasing products in bulk rather than simply filling individual customer orders. By warehousing huge inventories in his warehouse store, Mo eliminated traditional industry lead times, providing new and used products, available immediately, at low prices normally available only to large chains. Restaurant Equippers soon became known as one of the largest restaurant equipment warehouse stores in the Midwest.
Today, it has become far more common for retailers to ship products quickly; however, Mo (Morris Dach), the founder of Restaurant Equippers, was ahead of his time by making his “In Stock and Ready to Ship” philosophy a reality nearly 50 years ago. This was a game-changer and a life saver for small businesses whose livelihoods were heavily dependent on the ongoing operation of their commercial equipment. An ice cream store can’t wait 2 weeks for a new ice cream freezer cabinet and a pizzeria doesn’t want to wait several weeks for a new pizza oven if they are ready to upgrade and expand. Sometimes you need equipment ASAP and Mo understood that.
So here we are. Decades later and going strong. We have expanded our Columbus brick-and-mortar operation by opening additional warehouse stores in Michigan and New Jersey. We have launched a website that provides an outstanding purchasing experience for our customers, and our mobile site is available at your fingertips for browsing our huge selection while on your phone and on-the-go.
To Mo, providing the very best customer service was paramount. As some of us would say, “We’re keeping the Mo” by offering experienced, knowledgeable and friendly customer service in every store, online through our chats and over the phone. Our customer service staff is truly first-class (or as some of us in the restaurant industry like to say, “top-shelf,”) helping folks in the community fulfill their dreams of opening and operating a successful foodservice operation.
